Getting out of credit card debt is a big problem for anyone, especially if you don't have much knowledge of the way credit card companies work. Credit card debt affects more people then we realize, especially in these times when you just about have to use credit every day. Credit cards have basically become the way of the world now.
Credit card companies are known to give you offers to help you out of credit card debt when they are the ones that got you in debt to begin with. It`s like a domino effect, once you touch that first domino, the rest fall. Once you get into credit card debt, it is usually very stressful for most people when they try to get out of it. Credit card companies get alot of people to go into debt with them by offering ways to supposedly get you out of debt. They are like vultures going after a fresh kill. They do not sympathize with your personal situation, its all about the all mighty dollar.
It is extremely difficult to overlook credit card offers that allow you to do a balance transfer of some of your debt and pay no interest on it. Often, these are called zero percent offers. You are likely to believe that you are really going to be able to have a loan that you don't pay any interest on and your payments go straight to the principle. Credit card companies thrive on individuals that are not knowledgeable of just how they operate, and of individuals who fail to read the fine print.
In a sense these zero percent credit card balance transfer offers are for real. They might transfer some of the funds and on your first statement it will show a zero percent interest rate. The old saying that helps me is: "If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is." There are often catches that you are not aware of. One thing to remember is that the credit card companies are going to make sure they get what they want out of you one way or another, they are not going to give you something for nothing.
Credit card companies will almost always charge a 3-5 % balance transfer fee with a minimum value and occasionally a maximum value. The lost money from the time they support your debt and you pay no interest is made up with the transfer fees they are charging. Always be sure you know what the rates are going to be and rather they will be changing by reading the fine print carefully. Don't accept an offer that you are not sure of. The transfer fee is nothing more than disguised interest. Calculate that against the interest you would have paid leaving the debt where it is sitting now before you cash in on a zero percent balance transfer.
Credit card companies usually only offer a zero percent balance transfer for a very limited time frame, usually no more than three to six months. Once you figure in paying the transfer fees, it is most likely not worth transferring your balance. At the end of the introductory period, the credit card company is going to raise your interest rate to what they want it to be. Be absolutely sure you know what that interest rate is going to be and that they live up to that stated level of interest. If you get a zero percent transfer for three months and then face years at 21% interest thereafter, you have not achieved anything. Once again the credit card company has won. It is your money, your credit rating and your future that they are playing with, don't let them take advantage of you.
